Moving Text with Keystrokes
There are some keyboard commands provided by Geoworks in GEOS
which make text (text layer only) movement between applications
in PalmConnect easy.
Marking a region of text:
- < SHIFT > < End > -- will highlight text from cursor to end
- of line.
- < SHIFT > < Home > -- will highlight text from cursor to
beginning of line.
- < SHIFT > Left Mouse -- selects text from marked position
to current mouse position.
Multiple-Click marking -- If you Left-mouse on text multiple times
at double-click speed successively larger regions will be marked.
Sequence is:
- Double-click marks word,
- Third click marks segment or the entire line,
- Four clicks mark current paragraph
- Five clicks mark the entire text on the page (even if not in view).
Marking text this way works on all Geos-based platforms (Includes
PalmConnect, PDA-7000, PT-9000, PCAOL, ZAOL, etc.) Experiment!
- Moving text within the SAME dialog box or Sketch Page:
Select the text to be moved. Position the cursor over the selected
text and hold down the right mouse button. Still holding the
right mouse button down, move the cursor to the destination within
the dialog. Release the right button. The selected text will
appear when the button is released.
- Copying text within the SAME dialog box or Sketch Page:
Select the text to be copied. Position the cursor over the selected
text and, holding down the < Ctrl > key, hold down the right
mouse button. Move the cursor to the destination within the dialog.
Release the right button. The copied text will appear when the
button is released.
- Moving text to ANOTHER application:
Select the text to be moved. Position the cursor over the selected
text and, holding down the < Alt > key, press and hold the right
mouse button. Still holding < Alt > and right mouse button
down, move the cursor to the destination within the dialog. Release
the right button. The selected text will appear when the button is released.
- Copying text to ANOTHER application:
Position both source and destination windows side by side on screen,
both visible. Select the text to be copied. Position the cursor
over the selected text and, holding down the < Ctrl > key, hold
down the right mouse button. Move the cursor to the destination
window. Release the right button. The selected text will appear
when the button is released.
WARNING -- If you've marked a region in the text layer of a window
and you accidentally < CTRL > LEFT-mouse or < Alt > LEFT-mouse,
you will ink a line instead of dragging. This line will be "recognized"
by the handwriting recognizer (HWR) and delete the marked text.
CANCEL out of the window to restore your text.
These capabilities are particularly useful for copying text that
was imported into a PalmAddress Notes field over to PalmNotes.
(See note on importing blocks of text into notebooks
from other files. They are not implemented on all Geos-based
platforms, however. Again, experiment.
Additional keyboard commands are listed in the PalmConnect menus.
