Decent graphics for GEOS

In reply to Marcus' post, yesterday I sent a mail to Deneba, the developers of
Canvas ( a Mac and PC Corel Draw, Freehand, Illustrator, etc competitor). I
suggested that they look into developing a decent graphics program for GEOS,
as GeoWrite and GeoDraw fall short in various (mainly professional) aspects.

Looking at the features already available in GEOS, there are only a few things
that need to be added to provide real DTP power.

* A colour wheel for foreground and background colors
* Maybe more than 256 cols.
* Colour separation
* Crop marks and calibration bars
* Moveable guides (not box originated but dragged down)
* 3D effects (cubes, cylinders)
* Better gradient fills
* Better word wrap (adjustable distance to text)
* Align text to curve

I think if you have these features added, you have a near perfect DTP program
that could attract a wide variety of small home business users, or those who
want to do something in that vein.

The nice thing about this is that other GEOS programs could then also make use
of the new or extended libraries.

In terms of user-friendliness Canvas 3.53 is an absolute dog. You can't even
say "gimme an A5 page landscape". It's this stupid US letter format that only
the Yanks and no one else use. But using that you can enlarge your "Canvas"
considerably. That limitation will change in the new version.

Now if GEOS libraries could be extended, I think I would even sell my Canvas
version again, and hammer one more nail into the Windoze coffin.

I also told the Deneba guys that they would have a monopoly with their
product. What might be even better is when the new Uncle Desktop collaborates
with them to enhance GeoDraw or GeoWrite or come up with a new product based
on what Uncle Desktop can supply them with.

Feedback welcome.
