As people may use very diverse means of accessing email (and, hence, this list),
not everybody has the option of not downloading an attached file - outside AOL,
attached files usually appear as uu- or mime-encoded text at the end of a
letter, which has to be downloaded completely and is only split up by the mail
reading software at the end (for example, currently they don't have an option in
CompuServe to partially load a mail item).

OTOH, I agree that most people here *will* probably be interested in code
snippets and may also require these to give precise answers to questions. I
think that we should agree on some sort of limit beyond which files should not
be sent across the list - I propose something in the region of ~40K (must be
compressed somehow to reduce size and ensure integrity), because this will
result in encoded mails staying below the 64k size limit imposed by some
backends.

Anybody around who has problems with mails of that size?
