Nokia is _NOT_ running the developer program for the Communicator.
Geoworks _IS_ running that program.
If you want to develop for the Communicator, you must enroll in the
developer program. This program costs 8000 USD for the first programmer
and 5000 USD for each additional programmer. This price includes the SDK,
the emulator, documentation, special APIs available only on the
Communicator, a one-week training course specifically on developing for
the Communicator, and full direct technical programming support for 12
months.
To enroll, visit the Geoworks web site at www.geoworks.com, go to the
developer products order form, and click on the link to take you to the
Nokia 9000 Communicator enrollment questionnaire. Then fill in the
questionnaire and fax it to Geoworks.
Geoworks and Nokia defined this program together, weighing many
alternatives and looking at many different possibilities. Extensive
analysis of all aspects led to the program that we now offer.
I understand that some outside observers may think that the pricing is too
high or too low. I assure you, however, that developers with legitimate
business cases are signing up for the program without questioning the
pricing at all. Their first question is, "How soon can I start?"
For those who find the developer program out of their reach or not
consistent with their business case, there is the World Wide Web
application. The WWW browser on the Communicator supports a specialized
version of HTML 2.0 including forms support. This means that you can
create applications using CGI scripts on a Web server; users can use these
applications via the built-in Web browser... and you don't have to buy a
thing from Geoworks or Nokia to develop a Web application.
