Anyway...I got my first copy last week. I have read it cover to cover. I was
not really disappointed, because it is exactly what I would have expected
based on the quality of their execution up to this point. It was a cheesy
magazine that was much thinner than the average magazine, printed on low
quality paper and had been edited poorly. There were a fair number of
language errors. I point out this minutia because the cover price was $9.95.
The subscription prices are two to three times other automation magazines.
As to content, it was fair. I picked up three tips that I will use. However,
the information for two of those was contained in the users manual (which by
the way I might have read if HP had provided it in a bookreader or notepad
format). For the cost, it could have been much more substantial. Most of the
information came from us (we?) users and could have been obtained cheaper,
faster and more completely via the mailing list or message boards.
Overall, I rate HP OG World as a don't buy, if you own Thaddeus stock, sell
short. I think they located their office a little too close to the hog lot
(Iowa joke). The fumes have clouded their judgement and their product is a
little overly ripe. To end on a positive note, I will give them credit for
sending me the free issue they had promised after I had canceled my
subscription. I will check the newstand in a year or so. If they are still
around, I hope they have pulled their heads out of their fourth point of
contact and decided to offer a better product at a lower price. Other than
that I'm having a good day :)
