The OmniGo is being manufactured with at least 2 different screen
textures...the first being a very rigid plastic smooth surface....the second
being a very fine 'textured' surface with a little more 'give' to it....
The textured surface is very dense, and does not effect pen writing,
however, you can see it by holding the instrument to the light and feel it
by gently running your finger tips or even the stylus tip across the surface.
Running your fingers across the smooth screen will not be unlike a mirror or
glass surface.
For those of you that have the textured surface, please note....it scratches
VERY easy.....it also shows normal wear and tear a whole lot sooner than the
smooth surface screen...i.e. the upper left corner of the screen will start
to become cloudy with marks on the plastic as the stylus frequently comes in
contact with it....for application exits and solitare game playing......so
will the bottom of the screen around the 'F' keys....if you do alot of note
taking, I can see the main area of the display becoming scratchy very
quickly....
I dislike any scratches or even smudges on my displays....whether it be my
OmnGo, calculator, or piece of test equipment....so you can imagine how
careful I was when using the stylus......no amount of caution, however,
prevented the textured screen from scratching.....after returning and
replacing it with another OmniGo is when I discovered the different screen
materials.....it's like comparing apples and oranges....after almost 3 times
as long, my new screen is as good as when it first came out of the box.....
