Thats a design feature...the idea (I have derived the reason, not been =
told) is that when
you flip to vertical mode, u generally rotate the top all the way around =
and the keyboard is exposed on the underside...but disabling it, you =
dont end up with all kinds of spurious keystrokes

The other side effect is: if you turn the page orientation to vertical =
with password enable, and when you power=20
it down and turn it back on again, your keyboard is disabled. The only =
way that you can input the password is=20
using the Graffiti pen input. I don't know if mine is an isolated case, =
