This is standard operation. I believe it is to prevent from someone
accidentally hitting any of the keys while writing with the pen and
pressing into your palm. Some keys still function, like the "exit" and
"on" and the "Shift-On-Next" key combo.
You are right, though. You do have to use Graffitti to write your
password in, and that can be quite difficult if you use non-alpha keys
for you password.
