This may not be the perfect answer, but I've found in many situations where
I just don't feel like getting out the pen, my fingernail does the trick.
You have to keep them kind of long, and you can't be completely accurate,
but it does work. Most commonly, I do this when I start the Notepad and
want to switch the font. I hit the little 'a' with my nail and start
typing. I regularly start apps from the side 'hard bars' with my fingers
too (nails are better than full finger pushes cause they don't smush the LCD).
