Hi Julian,

I am sure that you will receive many more responses than mine, but I am
a relatively new user too, so you might be interested in my point of
view.

>This is my first posting so I ask stupid questions, please direct me
to a

>place where I can find the answer.

Most of your questions are answered in other FAQ's, of course. Here are
some of the places

on the WEB that I like:

http://people.delphi.com/scottk007/og1.htm

http://members.aol.com/nfiedler/software.html

http://users.aol.com/geogermany/eindex.htm

http://www.axxis.com/~mfine/fbbooks.html

http://www.geoworks.com/omnigo/downloa2.htm

There is also a page by Max Mansour that is pretty good,

but alas I have lost the address. A search might turn it up, or

perhaps there is a link from one of the other sites.

>I just bought the OmniGo 100 (with the option of returning it if not

what I

>gather so far (I have visited some the the web sites), Geo is running

perhaps

>run DOS programs, right? What do I need to do?

Doing DOS stuff is O.K. with some of the drivers available on the sites
above; however,

it is a little tricky. Text based programs will generally work, but
programs requiring

graphics will choke on the small screen. E-mail programs have a hard
time, too.

>What is the "normal" configuration for the unit? Is 1Meg of RAM
enough?

I use a 10Mb flashram card from MagicRAM. It works wonderfully, but
does use

up batteries faster than advertised. With constant usage, I get 2-4
days of usage.

I use my OGO a lot and increasingly use the flashram card. My phone
book is now too

large and resides exclusively on the card. I also keep a couple of
infrequently used

databases there. Also, I have a couple of small electronic books. Only
use 4Mb of the card

in all. It is the way to go. I also use the PCMCIA card to backup to my
notebook computer.

I am working on getting the program for my MAC so I can connect via
serial cable.

>How can I load software into the unit? Given everything is in ROM,
how will

>GEO OS recognise additional softwares?

A ram card or serial cable is needed. I bought my serial cable for $20
from one of the

companies listed in the literature that came with the OGO and have had
no problems.

>What is the best way to connect the unit to a PC? I can purchase the

>Connectivity Pack for AUD$200 approx. or just buy the cable AUD$40,
but I

>guess I will need freeware/shareware to do the transfer. Which is a
better way?

$20 is all that I needed. I use the transfer utility occassionally, but
generally use BMS file

manager, now. It is available from one of the sites above.

>Can someone also tell me how I can download past postings? I can
access via

>the WEB but my connection is extrememly fragile, so I can't stay for
very long.

I can't remember, but see the above web sites if someone doesn't give
you a better answer.

Ciao,

Chris
