1) Somehow obtain the OmniGo connection cable and some connection software.
As it turns out the cheapest way also turns out to be the best way. You
need to buy
or build the cable. You need to obtain the file transfer program
OmniCom, which
is contained in the shareware release of IZL. The URL is
ftp://ftp.netaxs.com/web/people/jferas/download/izl_ogsh.exe
2) Once you have successfully have connected with OmniCom, you need to
obtain
software to enble text mode. Actually, there are several different
programs that
do this, but I recomend OmniSwap because it also remaps the keyboard to
what
the keys say they are, and allows you to scroll the screen to view all
80 columns.
Oh, it also makes the DTR behave, so that you can use DOS based
communication porgrams. It can be obtained at
http://people.delphi.com/scottk007/omniswp1.zip
3) Unzip omniswp1.zip, and connect to the omnigo. Upload omniswp.exe to
root of the B drive. Download the B:\AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Break the
connection.
Edit the autoexec.bat file, and remove the (last) line that just says
"geos".
Replace it with a line that says "omniswp i". Fire up the connection
again, and
clobber the old autoexec.bat with the new one.
4) You are now ready to rock and roll. You will find that the OmniGo is
more or
less a really compact DOS machine. One thing you have to remember is to
remove OmniSwap from memory before you start GEOS again. This is best
accomplished by creating a small batch file to do this, something like
this:
B:
CD \
OMNISWP r
CD GEOWORKS
A:\GEOWORKS\LOADER.EXE
