You don't get copies for several reasons...
1) In non-threaded message boards, there is no way to determine if a message is a response to you, or just another post.
2) It's a public board, sending e-mail copies of responses to public posts, would encourage private (e-mail) responses to those responses, and you'd eventually wind up with almost no traffic in the public boards, almost everything would be confined to e-mail.
3) Depending on the area, your mailbox could get flooded... Say if you were in 5 different message boards that generated 10 responses to any given post each day, you could have 500 e-mails waiting for you in no time... :)
