State files basically save the settings of the program - kind of like an "ini" file in windows. It also allows the program to launch quicker when you switch back to it. Yes they will be recreated when you launch the program again - I feel that a reset has value however, if you have opened a lot of apps that you may never use again - say a week or two after you buy your OG and are through exploring. Then you reset - and (presumably) you will only open (and create state files) for the apps that you regularly use. I freed up almost 100k by doing this - so I think it has some value. Your biggest sacrifice?? The app will take a bit longer to launch the first time you do so after a reset - otherwise you don't loose anything.
Regarding batteries - don't know that there are any recharagables that are recommended or not - The unit itself will not recharge them - unlike an LX - and, based on my experience - I feel that the OG is drawing more power than something like the LX - so you may want to keep a sharper eye on the battery gauge - to make sure that it doesn't die unexpectedly. Otherwise, dont' think there is a problem with them.
