Purpose
=======
The purpose of the Pen-GEOS mailing list is to discuss all aspects of
pen-based computing and communication using the GEOS operating system
on platforms which include personal digital assistants, organizers,
notebook computers, and portable telephones.
Appropriate discussion topics include hardware platforms, operating system,
utility, and application software, configuration and customization,
connectivity, and software development.
List management
===============
List processing is handled by majordomo software. The list manager is
Brian Smithson <owner-pen-geos@lists.grot.com>. A digest version is
available.
How to subscribe
================
Send mail to majordomo@lists.grot.com with one of the following commands
in the body of your mail message:
subscribe pen-geos
(subscribes you to the mailing list to receive individual list messages
as they are posted, using your return address as your subscription
address)
subscribe pen-geos-digest
(subscribes you to the mailing list to receive digests of list messages
after they accumulate, using your return address as your subscription
address)
If you have any special subscription needs, such as to receive pen-geos
messages at an address that is different from your normal return address,
contact owner-pen-geos@lists.grot.com and make your request.
How to send mail to everyone on the list
========================================
To post a message to be received by everyone on the mailing list,
address your message to pen-geos@lists.grot.com. Please use an appropriate
"Subject" line in your message. Do not send encoded files (e.g. binary
files)
to the list without first contacting owner-pen-geos@lists.grot.com for
permission.
How to reply to mail you receive from the list
==============================================
In most cases, if you simply "reply" to a message using whatever default
mechanism is provided by your mail-reading software, your reply will be
sent to everyone on the list. To send a private reply to the author of a
message, you will likely need to edit the "To" field yourself.
However, some mail-reading software will send your reply only to the
author (by default), and only optionally will it be sent to everyone on
the list.
You will need to determine for yourself how your mail-reading software
handles the "reply" command and then operate it appropriately.
When you reply, please stick with the same subject matter as indicated
in the "Subject" line of the original message. If you wish to send a
message with different subject matter, please create a new message.
How to unsubscribe
==================
Send mail to majordomo@lists.grot.com with one of the following commands
in the body of your mail message:
unsubscribe pen-geos
unsubscribe pen-geos-digest
If you have difficulty unsubscribing from the list, send mail to
owner-pen-geos@lists.grot.com and request that you be unsubscribed.
How to change from regular to digest (or vice versa)?
=====================================================
Unsubscribe from your regular subscription and then subscribe newly to a
digest subscription (or vice versa).
