PDA Upgrade idea

Dear group:

I was thinking again about the need for upgrade-ability in PDAs. I had
earlier proposed that a small cottage industry could be made of ROM
upgrades for PDAs, including new OS and software. Another possibility
would be to make PDAs with a PCMCIA-type slot (maybe with limited access)
which would contain most of the "motherboard". That is, CPU, ROMs and
maybe RAM could be included.

When new OS version or new software become available, they could be
included on a PCMCIA "motherboard" containing a CPU upgrade and maybe a
higher-density RAM upgrade, as needed. PDA users could then order the
new mother-card and install it at home with not much more than a screwdriver.

So . . . is it possible to fit all that on a card? I would think PDAs
could be more attractive if hardware upgrading were possible.
