"degree"sign in NoteBook

I am using the Notebook app for my grad research work, and find that
there is a discrepancy between the degree sign made by notebook and text
editor. Notebook displays a tiny blip indicating a degree, but this
character is not supported by text editors, such that it will not
cut/paste into editors. I wish to be able to move blocks of text from
notebook into the Ensemble text file editor or GeoWrite, and it cannot be
done without having to hunt down all the degree signs and eliminate them,
then replace them in the Ensemble app.

Oddly enough, when the Ensemble text degree sign (ctrl-alt-shift-*) is
pasted into Notepad, it is displayed correctly.

So, what's going on? Is there a Graffiti stroke that can make a "real"
degree sign in Notebook?

BTW, Zoomer text file editor will give the correct degree sign using
Graffiti. This is a problem specific to the Notebook app.

Thanks.
