I've been using a handkerchief, and it does OK. (Note to Cami Lee: I've been using the new, brown issue ones.) Had'nt noticed the pointer getting un-calibrated, but that might explain some rather annoying mis-spellings with the floating keyboard. I had just chalked it up to poor typing, like with a regular keyboard. . .
