AOL on PDA's?

Excuse my ignorance, I'm new here. I really want a PDA but I'm not sure on a few things, one of which is RE: AOL. I've seen some ads for some units that come with AOL software but what can it do? Can that do everything that AOL on a PC can do? Can we chat, leave messages, etc, or is it limited to just looking at stock quotes and news and stuff? And if it can chat and post messages, etc, can it converse with BBS's?
Any info will be helpful...thanx
