The Maxtor cards emulate sram, so they get formatted the same as a regular card. As for the compression software, this may not work on the Zoomer. I have not recieved a card for testing, so I can't comment.

Also, make sure that you know the size of the card BEFORE the compression software.

As for the specs "5v, 50ma" this describes the amount of electicity that the Zoomer is capable of providing via the PCMCIA slot for cards to use. Some cards require more than the system is capable of giving.
