zoomer cable

I have a ZEOS ppc which uses an identical RS232 port ( in looks anyway). Is the connection cable the same or is there something odd about either one of them. The reason I ask is couldn't you use the modem that ZEOS has for the ppc? The cable for this will connect directly to the smaller port without any trouble. I would try this myself but I never bought the modem and cant see any sense in connecting to my computer when I dont have any transfer software for the Zoomer yet. I've tried to connect a standard modem but I can't seem to get a connect. I have been useing a Zoom 24/96 to try this test with no real luck. I figured it must be the cable but I could be wrong.
