The directional pad can be used to scroll text files, for example, as an
alternative to tapping on the scroll bars.
And pressing or holding the buttons already has uses, too. One that comes to
mind is that holding the buttons while resetting the machine erases the RAM
disk, should you ever need or want to do so. Also, the buttons are used in
certain file transfer operations, among other things... I haven't had a
chance to explore further, yet.
