In theory, any *Geos 2.0* apps should run. However, in practice, they may not. There are several reasons why. One is that most Geos apps use syste files that may be shared by other apps. This allows each app to be very small. (GeoWrite is 80 some k bytes). But those system files required by GeoWrite (for example) may not exist on the Zoomer.
Even if they did, the Z is an 8088 machine. And GeoWrite is a fairly heavy duty application, so I would expect it to run slowly. The existing apps on the Z are (my guess) fairly small and less demanding of CPU speed and memory than the desktop apps. Of course, since the Z is an 8088, adding CPU ram might be a problem.
The current version of desktop AOL is 1.5 and is based on Geos 1.2. This means it will NOT run on the Z; period. A new 2.0 version of AOL (promised but not available yet) would work in theory, but since this would be a *replacement* for the aol on the Z, there would be a problem to be worked out as far as how to replace the existing files (or add to?) that are in ROM.
I don't see the full fledged AOL as practical on the current Z anyway. It does not have enough storage space without adding a PCMCIA card to download any but the smallest files. Ditto for reading a lot of messages and logging them to file.
Finally, are the destop apps pen( or rather, ink) aware? Ink is a different data type. Can they handle it? I don't know.
Rather that sticking all that stuff on the Z, I see using both the Z and the desktop in conjuction for maximum utility.
