Maxtor MobileMax PCMCIA Flash Memory Cards have come up in various messages
in the past on this Zoomer list server. I would like to know who is still
interested in this issue. If your reply is not a general issue and you don't
want to bother the other subscribers of this list please direct your E-mail
to me at DDKnier@AOL.com and I will reply directly to you. I remember
putting off at least one user about a month ago because I could not talk
freely about this issue. By copy of this message I'm asking Chris De Herrera
at AOL (America Online) to work with me during the next week or so to try to
put something in place to address this issue.

There is also the bigger issue of SRAM and FLASH cards on the Zoomer. Some
of the more interesting things that I think would be of general interest to
many Zoomer users are:

1. Which cards work and which ones do not and why?

2. What are the advantages/disadvantages of the the differenty
types/configurations?

3. Where are the best buys (cost/price)?

4. How should files be maintained? i.e. What should go on C: and what on B:
and why? What is unique about the Zoomer file directory structure and what
do you need to know to make things work easier or at all? How does this file
placement impact performance and FLASH card life?

5. What is this 50ma power limit on the PCMCIA slot and the Zoomers tendency
to be sensitive to battery voltage?

6. What's this I hear about 100-200 times (not percent) performance
improvement compared to the traditional way of transferring files to my
Zoomer over the 9600 baud serial cable connection?

7. How can I maintain my files/data/updates/backup at high speed on my PC
and still have all of this on my Zoomer?

8. What happens when I mix SRAM and FLASH cards in my Zoomer card library?

9. What experience do other Zoomer users have in this area and where can we
go for specific information/experiences without having to wade through all of
the massive amount of information currently on the various existing systems?

10. What does a new user need to know to make life so much simpler when s/he
wants to start using a PCMCIA memory card?

I do not have all of the answers to all of these questions. However, I bet
that the Zoomer list subscribers do have most of the answers and many more
questions.

I'm not sure what is the best way to try to manage this. I only know that
I'm willing to start as a focal point. Brian would be the last word on what
the Zoomer list can do. Chris would be the natural focal point at AOL. What
do the rest of you think? ddk (Don Knieriemen).
