As for the new drivers, they are better. They interrupt the system when the
power is low under DOS and GEOS. The old ones didn't interrupt DOS! The
ongoing problem of writing when the batteries go low is the problem and also
how fast the voltage drops affects what happens. Sometimes it's recoverable,
other times it's not.
