Why the memory usage creeps up I don't know, but I have seen this
'Hard-Reset' only option before. I frequently had this problem using
Alakaline batteries, which would die suddenly. The only option was to
Hard-Reset.

BTW, I don't use anything but Lithiums, they may not be cost efficient but
the peace of mind is worth the few pennies.
