There's your problem. That serial cable has a couple of pins switched
around to allow computer-to-computer connection. Get a 'null modem'
adaptor (which is simply a plug that switches the lines around),
available at any electronics store, including Radio Shack. It should
cost about $10 at most. Of course, you COULD also open up the cable and
switch the pins yourself-- but I wouldn't try it.
