Not sure, but I believe he locked it with a password. Neither the Left
Shift-On-Next keys or the paperclip reset (is that all you do?) work

If your student is not willing to give you the password they typed in
(malicious assault on a PDA, punishable with three days suspension), most
likely a hard reset should do the trick. But, you said that the paperclip
didn't do a thing for you. Your next move is to pull all batteries out of the
Omnigo, wait 12 hours or so (safe amount of time) then install the batteries
as if new (following proper sequence). But, will loose EVERYTHING on the
OmniGo. If you have a memory card in, that will be OK (hope you have a good
back-up to restore things with).
