internal translation error

My current phone book can not be read by the Connectivity Pack. Attempts
to open it result in "Internal Translation Error".
I notice no problems on my OG100.
I have transferred the file three ways:
a) HotSync
b) delete the PC file and transfer via Connectivity Pack manual option
[ which I assume is effectively the same as a) ]
c) copy onto my memory card, put memory card into my notebook PC and drag
into the Connectivity Pack directory.

All result in the same error.
I am annoyed: I finally want to use the PC version of the apps
for some fairly high volume work (Christmas card list stuff).

I hope someone can help with explanations or common experiences.
