Perhaps your cable *is* a null modem. If you can use the cable to connect the Zoomer to your PC, then it is a null modem cable. The modem requires a cable that is *not* a null modem.
If that's the problem, then you need to "un-null" your cable. A simple way to do that is to get a null modem adapter and add it to the cable when using the cable for your modem. Two "nulls" make a "not".
