Hi Mike: I dont know how much this will help, but I think you might be using the wrong cable to attempt a file transfer. I also own the "official" null modem and modem cables. The modem cable is much shorter than the null modem cable and has a 25 pin connector to go into the PC port. The null modem cable is longer and has a 9 pin connector on the PC end. You need the null modem cable to do file transfers with. I mention this becasue you said the cable you are using is too short, but I find my Zoomer null modem cable to be just right in length. Anyway, if you *are* using the modem cable by accident, you can convert it to a null modem cable using a null modem adapter.
