Mark,

You may have problems with either the Newton or Zoomer when it comes to
diacriticals and/or Greek characters. Maybe someone will jump in and say
"nah, we can do it!" : )

The only way for a student to take rapid notes with the Newton right now is
to store them as "ink." Problem with the Newton -- can't translate ink to
text. The Zoomer CAN allow you to "ink" you notes rapidly, and translate
them to text later (maybe this is where umlauts could be worked out).

So that early nod goes to the Zoomer... BUT, the Newton can connect with a
Mac now, and PC very soon. The Zoomer will connect with the PC when
released, but I've heard NO timetable on Mac connectivity. Early
advantage... Newton on connectivity.

I HOPE Casio does do a Mac connectivity kit post haste. With the ability to
translate ink to text, my guess is that the Zoomer is a bit better for a
student. Also, you could buy a Zoomer and try it -- Radio Shack will take it
back if it isn't working for your needs. To try a Newton, I'd find a dealer
who would also give you a 30 day money back guarantee. The best way to avoid
a $700 mistake is to try both.

Craig

PS. If you do try both, please post your reactions here.Subj: WP/MS-PDA's
