Here is what I believe the problem to be:
The SRAM card you bought was pre-formatted, probably with MS-DOS on some kind
of PC based PCMCIA card drive. When you tried to format it on your Zoomer,
because of the pre-existing format, it saw the capacity of the card as less
that it's actual size. I encountered this same probelm when I was working
with some older PCMCIA cards last month. The solution was either to 1) take
out the battery and let it sit for 4-5 hours, or 2) to format using a special
utility included with the particular PCMCIA drive I had attached to my PC at
the time. I would try the former solution first. I also purchased a SRAM
card from Active Data last month, and Tim over there was generous enough to
format the card on a Zoomer and test it out before he sent it out to me.
