The Newton handwriting recognition is still dictionary look up. The biggest
differences are:
-it now has a letter-by-letter button at the bottom of the notepad which
temporarily turns off lookups
-letter-by-letter recognition is the norm in the names file
-full deferred recognition in the notepad
-plus, the recognition algorithm was rewritten and works a zillion times
better (I played with the new MessagePad 110 for about an hour today, and it
got EVERY SINGLE WORD CORRECT.
This new Newton is very Zoomer-like, with the vertically hinged lid, telescopi
ng pen (a billion times better than Zoomer's), and side mounted PCMCIA.
