Subject: ILWIN bugs and Palm storage info
Status: OR

I was using the ILWIN tool to convert some of my text files
into Palm for viewing on my zoomer.

TAB bug - ILwin translates (newline) to (tab) when translating
to ascii. But keeps (tab)'s you may have entered
	in Notepad as (tab)'s.

However in the revese direction (ascii to palm) all
(tabs) are turned into (newlines) which destoys readability.

If anybody from ILwin is listening, is there a fix for this?
Meanwhile refrain from using tab's in Notepad if you plan
	on exporting.

Palmconnect supports import of ascii only in address book (no export)
but there they do keep (tab) as (tab) and (newline) as (newline)
Unfortunately as they don't export, I have to use ILwin
to merge in all my other ascii sources of notes and addresses.

As we all know Palm uses a non-ascii storage for saving the Address
and Notebook data. (Which is why out the some of us decided
to shell extra $80 to translate it just to ascii.)
So you would think being binary the storage would be more efficient.
NOT SO! For each Notebook page, an extra 60 bytes will be consumed,
and for each Address page an extra 100 bytes will be consumed.

So if you have a bunch of addresses that are only phone numbers
Its best to make a single entry for "Company Numbers"
or "Personal Numbers A-F", then stick them all in the sketch
page for that entry. This way the Option/Text Search still
works and you are not wasting 100bytes per entry.
To save even more use the Notepad for an address book,
	as above.

The additional advantage of the sketch page or notepad,
is you now be able to use the clipboard to copy and paste
with the aol and each other. This also means you don't
need an ascii translator if you are willing to work
through the limitations of the aol editor.
