As we all know Palm uses a non-ascii storage for saving the Address
and Notebook data. (Which is why out the some of us decided
to shell extra $80 to translate it just to ascii.)
So you would think being binary the storage would be more efficient.
NOT SO! For each Notebook page, an extra 60 bytes will be consumed,
and for each Address page an extra 100 bytes will be consumed.
Someone from Palm can correct me since I don't know exactly how or why they
do things. but...My guess was they chose to store the information in a
GEOS VM-File which GEOS can handle much more efficiently. In fact I believe
Palm adds their own structure witin the GEOS VM files. Ascii files would
probably be a lot less efficient to handle for the Palm Applications.
Perhaps somone from Palm can give some better insight?...........larry
