2390 w/ external modem

Hi everybody,
Has anyone tried an external 14.4 modem, model PM144MT Practical
Peripherals to log on AOL and all you got was an hour glass?
Called AOL and verified user log-in, but never was able to make a
complete connection on the PDA.
The external Modem works on a Desktop and didn't on two different
PDAs.
