Hi,
Here's the story behind the power on the Zoomer:

It uses 3 volts to operate and gets a regulated 3 volts through it's power
supply. The input voltage is from 3 to 4.5 volts on the batteries and from
4.5 to 6 volts on the A/C adapters. The Zoomer get's its great battery life
from running the batteries into the ground. The only problem with this is
when the batteries voltage is low, and the system increases it's demand for
power by writing to the Flash or using the Serial Port, the system MAY shut
down after allowing some activity to occur after the voltage is below 3v.
Keep in mind that the PCMCIA and the serial port are 3v pumped up to 5v, so
they really suck the juice to do so.

For me, I have used rechargeable Nicads without a problem, but I would not
recommend using them with a PCMCIA flash card or a PCMCIA modem due to the
sharp reduction in the operating life of the Zoomer.
