Subject: Zoomer apps and Geoworks 2.01
Status: RO
I just installed the new Geoworks 2.01 upgrade, and I realized
that with the CONNECT button, I no longer need all of Palm Utilities on
my machine. I just created a Zoomer directory in the World directory
and copied the address book, date book, and notepad apps from
\PALM\WORLD into it. *Don't* copy over the preferences app; it causes
a KR-09 when you try to run it.

Initially, the Palm stuff will not work, since certain system files are
missing. So, copy these files

	  Date Selector
	  Page Object Library
	  Palm HWR Library
	  PalmUI Library

from \palm\system to \geos20\system. Voila! All the apps now work, and
you can free up four megs of space by deleting Palm Utilities. If you are
the mood to quibble with copyright law, copy the Pocket Quicken app and the
Pocket Quicken Database file from \geos\system on your Zoomer to the World
and System directories on your PC, respectively, and you'll also have
Pocket Quicken running on your PC.

The only oddity, aside from losing the Preferences in PU, is that if
you have the SoundBlaster driver installed, the "click" sound you hear on
your Zoomer becomes a very long, low "dooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnngggggggggg" on
your PC. It's as if the sampling rate is stretched by a factor of 10 or
so. Somewhat amusing, actually.

Also, the fonts shipped with 2.01 have the new metrics, so ink and
text will not line up on your sketch pages. You used to be able to beat
this by using the 2.0 fonts with the Palm apps, but not anymore. I think
this is a major bug in Palm's stuff, but I haven't heard if they plan to
address it in a patch release.

Anyway, try this! I really liked freeing up the space.
