Unistrokes are a mapping between single pen strokes and characters of the
alphabet. A pen stroke consists of all of the pen's movement between the
moment it touches the screen and the moment it is picked up. For instance,
touching the screen, dragging the pen south, and picking it up corresponds
to the letter "i". Tapping the screen corresponds to a space. Touch,
drag north, and pickup corresponds to an "a".
If you want a reference to the paper, take a look at "Touch-Typing
With a Stylus" in the INTERCHI '93 Conference Proceedings.
