It's true that the Zoomer file linking speed is limited to 9600 baud, 
hence PalmConnect is also limited to 9600 baud in file linking mode.

File linking is not simply blasting bits across the wire in the same 
way as a file transfer.   Here's something you can't do easily with file 
transfer:  Link your machines, then copy a file from each file manager 
(PDA  and PC) simultaneously to the other machine.  The "traffic" is 
handled without a problem.  

While there are definitely power users who want higher speeds, it 
was important for the design that file linking be bomb-proof for the 
most casual users.
