I've been using a Pamco Electronics parallel port PCMCIA card drive for
about two years now. It's about the size of a VHS video cassette and
works with all the Type I SRAM and ROM cards I've tried with it. The
drive has been very useful and far faster and more convenient than
using serial port transfers. Unfortunately the company is no longer in
business.

Other companies make parallel port PCMCIA card drives, as well as SCSI,
internal ISA, or IDE interface drives. Drives typically have one to as
many as four slots which are usually Type II and sometimes Type III or
have two stacked Type II slots for use with Type III cards. Most
drives now include support for Sundisk ATA interface flash memory
cards. Some drives have full Card and Socket Services and so should
work with any PCMCIA card including modems, SCSI interfaces, network
adapters, sound cards, and other I/O devices.

A list of several PCMCIA card drive makers can be found in the file
available via anonymous ftp on the Internet
ftp://csd4.csd.uwm.edu/pub/Portables/PCMCIA/pcmcia-devices-list.
PCMCIA dealers can be found in the pcmcia-sources-list file. I can
mail these files to this mailing list if enough people are interested.
