ATA flash w/o driver

I understand that for normal FLASHRAM cards you need a driver. A problem is
that when you crash you're system out on the beach (away from you're desktop
PC) you're stuck because you're driver is on the card which you can't reach
without the driver.

I saw, however, an ATA driver in the OMNIGO. Does this mean that an ATA
FLASHRAM works without an extra driver?. If this is true I can buy ATA FLASH
instead of SRAM and still won't be needing a desktop system for backups or
reinstallation of drivers.

The perfect formula, or not.

Feedback please.
