Newton 1Meg SRAM cards + PCs

A while back, there was a bit of a discussion about which PCMCIA cards
were compatible with both the Zoomer and 'regular' PCs. Last week, I
finally got around to purchasing a new IBM ThinkPad for the office, so I
had the opportunity to experiment with a PCMCIA Type II slot in a PC.

I have one of the Newton 1Meg SRAM cards. Once I installed the ATA driver
(actually, reconfigured the Phoenix super-driver) on the ThinkPad, the PC
would recognize the Newton card. For some reason, the PC didn't correctly
read the directory (thought the card was 41Meg and had much garbage in
the directory entries). After reformatting the card using the ThinkPad,
the card correctly reported it's size and status to the PC. The Zoomer
continued to read/write the card just fine.

I can tell no difference in size or speed between the Zoomer- and PC-
format ... but the added utility of being able to transfer data in bulk
between the PC and the Zoomer is wonderful.
